Bronx Borough President

1. What is the most important issue in the Bronx you would address if elected?

If reelected, I will continue to work hard to build the Bronx economy. I will implement programs not only to bring new businesses to our borough, but to make it easier for existing businesses, especially our many struggling small businesses, to stay here. I will also continue my partnership with the Association for Energy Affordability, along with the Consortium for Workers Education, to train Bronx residents for the "green collar," environmentally-friendly jobs of the future. Through this program and others like it, we will ensure that Bronx residents will be prepared for the growing green economy, and will be ready and qualified for these good jobs when they are made available.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

We must make sure our children are getting a quality education, and I will do everything in my power to make that happen, which includes leading the fight to ensure that The Bronx receives its fair share of school funding. My office will also work to keep our borough's cultural institutions strong, and fight to reverse cuts to our most vital city services, including police, fire and our community boards. I will reach out to Citywide leaders on a whole host of issues that affect our lives, from business and labor to education and the environment, to find ways to make our lives here, and the lives of those elsewhere, better.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

All through my 13 years in the New York State Assembly, and continuing through my recent service as the Bronx Borough President, I have been a fighter for the people of The Bronx. On issues including the economy, the environment, education and constituent services, my record is clear. My strong advocacy on the important issues that face the lives of our neighbors will continue in my next term, and I look forward to working with all Bronxites to make our home a better place.
