and commitment count. I have 25 years of real experience
working in government and the non-profit sectors.
I will draw on my experiences in government at the
City, State and Federal level to form partnerships
to deliver services to the residents of the Bronx.
I can and will be an independent voice for you.
2001 marks a time for change, new visions and new
leadership. Over the last few years the Bronx and
the entire City have experienced growth and seen
improvements. However we can do more.
Public education is our future. We can no longer
simply point fingers and ask what went wrong. We
need a collective effort between all stakeholders
in the system - elected officials, the chancellor,
the teachers, parents and students. We must work
together to reshape the delivery of educational
services to the young minds entrusted to our care.
I have worked with these stakeholders in the past
and would help them to come together to address
public education in a comprehensive way instead
of a piecemeal fashion.
Affordable housing builds communities. Greater emphasis
should be placed on creating public-private partnerships
to develop new housing stock. Community based organizations
should be the front line for addressing this issue.
Who better understands the particular housing needs
in its own community? CBO’s should be given the
technical support and resources to build additional,
affordable housing.
Affordable medical care and education regarding
public health are an absolute necessity. The government
can respond more affirmatively. Education, outreach
and research programs for asthma and AIDS are just
a few areas where I will do more.
I have the experience to bring positive change to
the Bronx. Together, we can do more.
