This race isn’t
about political parties or ideologies. It’s about
getting things done in our district. Making our
schools places that empower children. Getting trash
off our streets. Creating jobs. Improving our lives.
I’ve never held office before. I’m not a career
politician. I’m a single, working parent who has
lived in this district for six years, and in this
city all my adult life. I’m intimately familiar with
the problems people face here - the struggle to find
affordable housing, balance work and parenting, make
a paycheck stretch for two weeks.
If it were up to me, I’d be running simply as
Michelle Bouchard, resident of the Third District. I
dislike partisan politics. I’m a pragmatist; I
believe in getting things done. That means taking
good ideas from wherever I find them. I support
election reform that would abolish party politics on
the local level. Let’s stop wasting time arguing and
start working together to solve the real, pressing
problems facing us.
We need to raise our expectations, both of our city
and of ourselves, and develop our district to its
full potential. That means preserving our unique
history while encouraging new development. Nurturing
the Arts. Building more parks. Partnering with the
private sector.
It also means investing in people. Making our
schools true centers of learning, with competitive
standards for curriculum. Giving teachers more
authority to make classrooms safe. Supporting
families — under any definition of the word — with
daycare and partner rights. Protecting housing
options for all income levels.
It’s about you—your needs, your priorities, your
agenda. Elect me, and I promise to keep it about
you. I promise to listen. And most importantly, I
promise to get it done.
