But I have no public experience! To me that is an
advantage. I have fresh ideas and perspectives, not
political debts to interest groups. I am accountable
to the voters.
Growing up in the environment of my parents trying
to make ends-meet for four kids with their own
blood, sweat, and tears had a lasting impact. City
government has stopped listening to these kinds of
people, but they don’t stop taxing and harassing
them.
My campaign platforms cannot be summed up in nice
sound-bytes or cute phrases. The issues of our
communities are not solved by phrases; they are
solved by well thought out ideas and initiatives.
My background and experience includes: being a
faculty member of CUNY- being in our public high
schools and colleges not just reading the reports
and ranting about standards, working my way through
college as a bartender and CPR Instructor, treating
AIDS patients, abused children, neglected nursing
home residents, holding the neck of a child hit by a
drunk driver, holding my breath when the news
reports a police officer killed-hoping it is was not
my brother, watching my mom die in an understaffed
nursing home that reports millions in profit.
