Jose Serrano, son of Congressman
Jose Serrano, has proved himself over the years
as a strong advocate for the people of The Bronx.
As Chairman of the Board for the Institute for Urban
Family Health, Mr. Serrano works hard to ensure
that everyone in our medically under-served community
is provided quality healthcare, regardless of insurance
status. The Institute recently received a $4 Million
grant from The Centers for Disease Control to launch
a study on racial disparities in healthcare.
Mr. Serrano also serves as a Member of Community
Board 4; Member of the Board for the Bronx Council
on the Arts; and Member of the Henry Street Settlement
Campfire Scholarship Committee. Mr. Serrano’s community
involvement has given him the experience, energy,
and commitment necessary to get things done, and
his election to City Council will allow him to do
even more.
Jose Serrano’s priorities in City Council will be
construction and renovation of more affordable housing,
overall improvement of public schools, quality healthcare
for all, improved delivery of services for our seniors
and veterans, and an end to the systematic environmental
injustices that have plagued the people of the South
Bronx for decades. This environmental discrimination
has allowed the over-industrialization of the South
Bronx as a whole, and the resulting pollution has
been scientifically linked to astronomical asthma
rates and other health problems.
Mr. Serrano will work hard to ensure that our community
receives the respect and services it deserves. Jose
Serrano will use his strongest assets: honesty,
integrity, intelligence, and experience as his tools
to be the strongest advocate for the South Bronx.
Jose Serrano’s candidacy is endorsed by SEIU 1199,
Rev. Al Sharpton, Bronx Borough President Fernando
Ferrer, and the Bronx Democratic Party.
Jose Serrano for City Council: A new vision for
the South Bronx.
