The underlying principle upon which I
have served in the state legislature for almost
27 years is that my objective is to serve the
interest of the people who elected me, and the
interest of all the people of the state of New
York, particularly, those without a voice and
those without the means. Further, to serve them
with honesty, integrity, and dignity. While recognizing
that politics involves the “Art of Compromise”,
I never compromise my principles nor my primary
beliefs. Though my philosophy on social issues
is liberal and progressive, more significantly,
I have a conscience, and I try not to violate
it.
35 new members will be elected to the 51 member
New York City Council. If elected, I shall assume
the responsibility to share the 27 years of legislative
experience I have gained in the Assembly to provide
leadership to the New York City Council either
as it’s Speaker or as a member.
Because of my achievements and leadership in
the State Assembly, I have thus far been endorsed
for the New York City Council by the following
unions:
Central Labor Council
Local 1199/SEIU
U.F.T
D.C. 37
Local 371
Local 372
