The first most important
issue that involves our Community is our children
and the restructuring of the Board of Education.
To begin, we must first focus on the quality of
education our children receive, especially due to
overcrowded schools. I do not put the blame on teachers
as other people, but classroom conditions play a
major role. If class sizes were reduced, the children
and teachers would pay more attention and the focus
could be on learning. School buildings should be
made larger so that more classrooms could be built
therefore, classrooms will have less children. Teachers
would have a much easier time, doing their job.
Safety issues would be an easier task to enforce
with smaller size classrooms.
Another important issue is housing. More affordable
housing is very necessary for the lower to middle
income families. The prices of an apartments have
soared therefore making rent payments and feeding
the family, a very stressful task for the breadwinner.
Rent stabilization is necessary and it needs to
be enforced so that families won’t have to move
because of rent hikes.
