1. What is the most important issue in Council District 05 you would address if elected?

I'll work to make New York more livable. I'll continue to lead opposition to the proposed E. 91st St. 10-story garbage dump at Asphalt Green; support affordable housing; help create new jobs with initiatives like Roosevelt Island's Cornell-Technion School; and fight for better public education, mass transit and public health.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

On the Council, I'll keep fighting to improve our quality of life. I have a record in public service of delivering effectively: helping bring the East Side 4 new public schools; leading the fight against the City's proposed E. 91st St. dump, in which I'm lead plaintiff in 2 lawsuits; fighting for moderate and low-income tenants; standing up for women's right to choose; securing tougher air quality regulations on the 2nd Ave. Subway; and delivering capital funds for public space like Roosevelt Island's FDR 4 Freedoms Park. An experienced legislator, I've written laws to crack down on drivers injuring pedestrians; make it illegal for insurance companies to unfairly raise prescription costs; and introduced the Public Corruption Prevention Act to levy tough criminal penalties on crooked officials. I'll continue to help lead the fight for equal rights, including for people with disabilities and LBGT persons.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I have a proven track record of making difference when it matters most. I've helped deliver 4 new public schools to the East Side, sued the City over its proposed E. 91st St. garbage dump, fought for tougher environmental controls on the 2nd Ave. Subway, and passed important laws. As a champion of middle class New Yorkers, better schools, mass transit, the environment, and affordable housing, and the candidate with years of public service experience, I am best able to fight and deliver for the 5th Council District.
