1. What is the most important issue in Council District 38 you would address if elected?
Affordable housing, public health concerns, maintaining education funding and after school programs, public transportation, ensuring our immigrant populations are treated fairly and receive the support they need to realize the American Dream, and preparing for the long term effects of climate change within our waterfront communities, especially Red Hook.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Strong public schools are the backbone of our community. I led the effort to construct Sunset Park's first high school, helped bring a new early childhood center to the district and have secured millions of dollars of funding for computer labs, and after-school educational and cultural enrichment programs. As Councilwoman I have fought to bring nearly $500 million in educational resources to the community and saved hundreds of day care slots.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have served this district as its Councilwoman for the past decade, and long before that as a community and public health activist, helping bring resources and services to vulnerable populations. I've lived in this community my entire life, raised my family here and have a track record of over three decades of service to this community. Upon re-election, I will be the senior most member of the City Council, putting em in a position to bring even more resources and services to our community.
