1. What is the most important issue in Council District 42 you would address if elected?
I see the following issues as my most important priorities: Education, Crime, Employment, availability of Healthy Food Choices, Senior Citizen Advocacy, and affordable Housing as motivators in my run for office. Additionally I want to address the following community concerns such as Stop and Frisk (District 42 has the highest incidents in the five boroughs).
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
I find the following issues to be important; as a parent coordinator; Parental Accountability/Involvement is an issue that is not addressed to its fullest potential. During my tenure in the NYC DOE I see firsthand the results of a lack of parental involvement. I know for a fact that this has always been the leading key factor in low academic performance of students across the city. I want to ensure parents voices are heard within the halls of City Hall; as a city council member I will make sure they are heard.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
As a resident of the East New York community for over 30 years as an activist, teacher, and leader I know exactly what changes need to take place to improve the opportunities available to the members of my community. After a second place showing in the 2009 election I am primed and even more dedicated to win the 2013 election. With the support of the community, I will bring their issues to the newly elected Mayor and make sure their voices and pertinent issues are heard throughout the city.
