I’m running for
Public Advocate to advance the legalization of
marijuana for adults and to pressure our elected
representatives to debate the issue. Because I’m the
singer songwriter of the rock band PAN in NYC, I
have no ambition to be a typical candidate who is
afraid to speak his mind.
As Public Advocate my main goals would be: (1) to
call for a more humane and effective drug policy,
(2) to stop arresting low-level, non-violent
marijuana users, and (3) to pressure the Federal
government to move marijuana from a Schedule One to
a Schedule Two drug so that it could be used
medically.
Since thousands of New Yorkers support medical
marijuana, voting for the Marijuana Reform Party (MRP)
candidates enables us to join citizens in the eight
other states that have begun to reform their
marijuana laws. We will lobby the state legislature
to legalize hemp so farmers in New York may grow it
for industrial purposes. The MRP will be a voice for
responsible adults who want the personal freedom to
use marijuana and for seriously ill people who
suffer needlessly without the medicinal benefits of
marijuana. Moreover, ending marijuana prohibition
will significantly reduce children’s exposure to the
black market.
Because New Yorkers cannot conduct ballot
initiatives to change the drug laws, our best
recourse is to create a political party focused on
drug policy reform. Votes for the MRP will
demonstrate that thousands of New Yorkers oppose
Marijuana Prohibition and that legislators should
not be afraid to confront the issue. The billions of
tax dollars wasted on marijuana prohibition could
instead be used to protect the environment, support
education, provide health care, public
transportation and affordable housing. By voting for
the MRP, you have a rare opportunity to express your
dissent.
