Queens needs its fair share of city services:
we don’t get enough funding for police and fire
protection, schools, libraries or parks. We need
more housing that working people can afford, and
we need more first-rate schools, with fairly paid
teachers and classrooms with books, desks, chairs
and windows, so all children get a quality education.
We need better services for our seniors and young
people and a police force that allows people to
live in their neighborhoods without fear of crime,
with police officers that they know and trust.
And, we need a borough-wide development plan that
balances the needs of Queens: creating information-age
jobs while preserving industrial-age ones; encouraging
growth while maintaining neighborhood residential
character.
I am a candidate for Queens Borough President
because I love Queens and am uniquely qualified
to make it better for its hardworking people.
Unlike my opponents, I am not a career politician,
but rather a proven fighter for families and children.
I was a teacher, active with the PTA, and finally
appointed to the New York City Board of Education,
where as President I stood up and fought the mayor
when he was shortchanging the city schools. At
the Board of Education I worked with an $8 billion
budget, negotiated union contracts, and brought
people together to improve our children’s education.
Throughout my career I was involved in many other
aspects of my community, working with the elderly,
the environment and services for families. I have
the experience, knowledge, and integrity to be
the most effective Borough President and I hope
to have your vote.
