For the last 19 years, I have had the
honor of serving Queens as an elected official—10
years on the City Council, 9 years in the State
Assembly.
I’m running for Borough President to put my
years of experience in city and state government
to work for Queens-for quality schools, for
safer streets, for better mass transit and a better
quality of life for all our neighborhoods. And
I’ll work every day to make sure we get our fair
share from the City.
As Chair of the City Council’s Higher Education
Committee, I led the fight against cutbacks at
the City University of New York and I’ve worked
hard to ease overcrowding and upgrade technology
in our schools. Improving public education
will continue to be a top priority for me as Borough
President.
On the City Council and in the State Assembly,
I’ve fought to protect tenants and support
rent control and rent stabilization. I’ve
also worked to protect homeowners—opposing
illegal conversions that threaten property values
and destroy the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
As Borough President, I’ll continue to stand up
for tenants and homeowners and focus on all the
quality of life issues that make such a
difference in our daily lives—from reducing noise
and air pollution around our airports to improving
our local parks and playgrounds to making sure
there’s adequate funding for senior centers and
public libraries.
I’m proud to have the support of Claire Shulman—who
I have worked on countless issues and projects
for Queens throughout the years. I have the support
of a broad range of distinguished elected officials
and community leaders throughout our borough.
I hope I can earn your support, too.
