We must demand accountability for our
educational dollars, provide for affordable housing,
improve economic development in our communities,
and work together to protect our environment.
I’ve been fighting for tenants since the 1980’s.
Lobbying on behalf of Mitchell-Lama residents
and other rent protected tenants. I’ve traveled
to Albany and sat-in at the Republican Majority
Leader’s office, nearly getting arrested, protesting
the State Senate’s failure to protect tenants
rights. I’ve lobbied Gov. Mario Cuomo for protection
for tenants in Mitchell-Lama housing, and rallied
on the steps of City Hall urging Mayor Ed Koch
not to allow landlords to move seniors from their
apartments of many years to smaller quarters.
I’ve helped prevent evictions of families from
their homes because the rents are too high, and
have helped find decent housing for those in need.
As a member of the Kingsbridge Business Improvement
District Steering Committee I’ve worked tirelessly
to bring to fruition a business improvement district.
The BID was signed into law May 29, 2001.
I’ve been a resident of the Kingsbridge/Riverdale
section of the Bronx for 31 years. I served as
an aide for Councilwoman June Eisland, working
inside City Hall and in our community. I have
testified at City Council committee hearings,
researched Council legislative introductions and
worked extensively with council staff. I was a
District Manager for Congressman Eliot Engel and
a District Aide for New York State Senator Franz
Leichter. I am serving my third term as the Female
Democratic District Leader in the 81st Assembly
District.
