I have served the people
as Chairperson of the local Community Board for
the past 8 years. Not only did I hear their concerns,
I also resolved many of the problems as well. I
look forward to serving the Community at a level
which empowers me to address their concerns more
effectively.
EDUCATION - An improvement in the quality of education
for all students must be sought. An accountability
assessment plan developed for teachers that is acceptable
to both parents and teachers. A larger share of
NYS Lottery monies should be allocated for the construction
of schools and the improvement of programs. Additional
recreational facilities with some emphasis on education.
ENVIRONMENT - Implement an ongoing, cost effective
plant pollution program to neutralize toxic emissions.
This would help alleviate the Asthma problems which
currently exist within the City, particularly in
the Bronx.
HOUSING - Much of the Homeless problems in NYC are
due to lack of affordable housing. Although an effort
is in place, more programs are needed to deal with
the issue. We must address the maintenance of Public
Housing since it has been neglected over the years.
QUALITY OF LIFE - Strive to ensure that City Agencies
serve the Communities in a timely and effective
fashion. Our quality of life has been improved by
providing cleaner streets and removal of graffiti,
but we have a long road ahead. Many of our streets
need improvement. Police and Community relations
need improvement. Officers need better training
to work with local communities.
