Elizabeth Crowley is a candidate for City
Council in the 30th District.
The Crowley family has a long history of community
service.
Her father, Walter served on the City Council
in the early 1980’s. He was a member of St. Adalbert’s
Parish Council, a Democratic district leader,
and member of the Board of Higher Education. Her
mother, Mary, served on School Board #24 for 12
years and upon her husband’s passing briefly served
in the New York City Council filling out his term.
Today, Mary runs a day care center in Queens.
Her sister, Mary is a member of School Board
#24. Elizabeth’s cousin, Joseph is a member of
the House of Representatives and a former member
of the New York State Assembly.
Elizabeth is a member of District Council 9,
International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.
Much of the historic preservation work Elizabeth
has done can be seen in many of the great landmarks
of New York City including Radio City Music Hall,
Empire Theatre at Times Square and St. Patrick’s
Cathedral.
Elizabeth also works as a teacher, and if elected
to the City Council her main priority would be
improving the public education system. Her four
point plan includes: 1) Lower Class Size; 2) Improving
the Physical Conditions of School Buildings; 3)
Providing competitive teachers salaries to retain
teachers who are fleeing to the suburbs and 4)
investing in computers and new textbooks to teach
children the most up to date technology.
Elizabeth attended St. Adalbert’s School and
graduated from St. Agnes High School. She graduated
from the Fashion Institute of Technology Magna
Cum Laude. Currently, she attends CUNY Graduate
School where she is getting her Masters’ Degree
in Education.
Elizabeth is the proud mother of two children,
Dennis, 4, and Owen, 3. Her husband, Dennis O’Hara
is a New York City Police Officer.
