1. What is the most important issue in Council District 50 you would address if elected?
Hurricane Sandy devastated many communities in the District. Residents and businesses continue to face hardship, confusion, and uncertainty, and because they are suffering they must be our priority. Therefore, the most important issue facing the District will be efforts to make these communities whole again, and to ensure their future safety and security. I will work to rebuild these communities - to do it smart and to do it right.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
With smart planning and creative solutions traffic can be made more bearable, and while tolls are beyond the reach of the City Council, they are harming our economy. I will work with the new Mayor to do whatever can be done to wrestle toll setting authority from the MTA. I will also work with the NYPD and the DA's office to deal with the prescription drug issue. Finally, I will work to ensure that seniors have the housing and the care they need.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I am the only candidate in this race with city government experience, and I have dedicated my professional life to serving the people of the 50th District. As Chief-of-Staff to the Minority Leader I have been solving constituent problems for much of the past decade. I know all the players in all the agencies, eliminating the kind of learning curve that leaves constituents poorly represented. We are facing problems of extraordinary complexity, and over and over again I have been there finding solutions. I am the only candidate in this race who can hit the ground running, fully familiar with the problems we face, and fully ready to implement the solutions.
