1. What is the most important issue in Council District 51 you would address if elected?
There are several pressing issues facing district 51. Putting them in priority is no easy task. First I will address transportation issues. The roads on Staten Island, particulary the South Shore are in terrible condition, combine that with a motoring public that believes driving recklessly is a right of passage and you have a recipe for disaster. I will work with authorites to make sure speeding isn't just addressd at the hylan boulevard speed traps but rather the priority be on residential streets, where our children are playing. Next I would work with DOT to address the deplorable road conditions Lastly the MTA has failed to provide our community with adequate transportation alternatives, causing an over-dependence on the use of cars. I call for the immediate restoration of any service cuts which affected this constituency. There clearly is a need for more service starting with more express buses. A community wich has the longest commute in the nation should not have to stand or be packed in like sardines for the entire trip.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
The South Shore of Staten sland has become infamous for it's Prescription Drug Problem, which has existed for over 15 years and has essential devestated a generaion. It wasn't until recently that our elected officials began to notice this scourge which has effected every corner of this community. Another major concern is the lack of a trauma center or availibilty of a neo-natale cae center on the South Shore. For to many years our elected officials have been asking a district 51 parents to travel 40 minutes to district 50 to have their seriously injured child treated, because there is no trauma center nearby. This is just unacceptable.
Staten Island has gotten a fourth precinct and while that shoud be good news for all of us, I fear the people of district 51 may once again be shortchanged. While additional officers will flood the Mid-island and North Shore Districts distict 51 will be lucky to mintain it's already deficient compliment of officers.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
I have been working for the people of district 51 since I was 16 years old, I have never asked for or recieved compensation for efforts. I have to come to realize that my efforts have made a positive impact on this community. I want to do more and believe the status quo is no longer acceptable. my Friens, my neighbors, and ths community have watched our community suffer from poorly planned devlopments, lack of decent transporation. I have witnessed with reckless divers, and substance abuser attempt to overun this community and I could no longer be content with just providing recreational activities and volunteerism, i feel it is necessary for me to take a more active role in the community I have lived in for ovr a half a centuy.
