Jeannette Gadson served as Deputy Brooklyn
Borough President from 1993-2001.
As Brooklyn’s Deputy Borough President, Gadson
was responsible for strategically appropriating
New York City Expense and Capital funds. She monitored
the delivery of City services and worked with
Community Boards throughout the borough to improve
services and quality of life.
Under Jeannette Gadson’s leadership thousands
of housing units for low/middle income families
and seniors have been developed throughout Brooklyn.
She acted to bring new jobs to Brooklyn through
her work with the Training and Employment Council
of Brooklyn, through her role in creating Downtown
Brooklyn Office development and through the revitalization
of commercial streets throughout Brooklyn.
Jeannette Gadson led the fight against the City’s
proposal to develop waste transfer sites along
the borough’s waterfront. She has supported continuing
rent regulations to protect tenants. She worked
to expand senior rent and property tax exemptions.
Gadson successfully fought the privatization of
our schools and hospitals and has initiated a
program through Borough Hall to extend health
care coverage to low-income workers.
Jeannette Gadson has worked with every community
of Brooklyn. She has solved community problems,
secured funds for our schools, worked to pass
laws to make our lives safer and fought against
reductions in neighborhood services.
In her announcement, Jeannette Gadson stated,
“I believe that we must continue to work
together to instill a sense of responsibility
to and for one another - and work together everyday
to help build better lives and better communities.
And together we can do that and that is why I
want to be your Borough President.”
Endorsed by Borough President Howard Golden, Gadson
has also earned the support of elected officials
and community activists from every part of Brooklyn,
from Canarsie and East New York to Greenpoint
and Bay Ridge.
