I am an “Ox for the
People” - a Chinese saying that means a honest politician
that is willing to serve the people. (I’m also born
in the year of the Ox!) I want to serve all of the
people in Flushing, the new immigrants and the long
time residents; the working class, middle-class
and underclass. We’re all in this together.
Education: Smaller teacher to student ratio, more
teachers’ aides. Equitable pay compared to the surrounding
counties and states. Staggered and later hours to
lessen overcrowding. Internships and life credits
in high school. Mix vocational programs with academic
classes.
Housing: Eliminate the Erstadt Law so that housing
regulations are determined locally instead of in
Albany. Eliminate vacancy increases, and make apartment
improvements a temporary surcharge and not a permanent
rent increase. Extend rent protections to all New
York City tenants. Increase funding to Section 8.
Build more on-site daycare centers.
I will hold regular “town hall” meetings with the
community. I will work out a solution to the garbage
problem that includes the community, merchants,
and public and private sanitation representatives.
I will have Flushing tested for air and noise pollution
levels, and will demand that airplanes are fitted
with noise reduction technology.
Stop privatization of public parks and recreation
areas. Reinstate the stock transfer tax. The money
exists to make real changes in the city; the problem
has been allocation. If elected I will serve the
people of Flushing with all of my ability; and all
of my heart.
