Terence Park, a public
advocate for Flushing since 1980, has received broad
support from diverse community leaders, including
Council Speaker Peter Vallone, and African-American
civil rights activist Rev. Timothy Mitchell. Terence’s
experience solving quality of life issues with city
agencies distinguishes him from all other candidates
who have limited themselves to merely civic roles.
For example, Terence’s experience at the Mayor’s
office cleaning up Times Square gives him the upper
hand in grappling with Flushing’s dirty streets.
And his work at the New York Hospital of Queens
empowers him with a comprehensive understanding
of the community’s healthcare needs.
Terence’s platform advances three key issues:
a. Affordable Housing: With his extensive experience
at the NYC Housing Authority, Terence is a housing
expert. He plans to establish an ethnically balanced
housing commission that works in conjunction with
Community Board #7 to build more housing and lower
rates. Terence will strike a delicate balance
between Flushing’s overcrowding and the housing
shortage by paying careful attention to the concerns
of the various ethnic communities.
b. Clean Streets: While all candidates cry about
the need for more sanitation enforcement, Terence
supports the development of stringent laws, but
also realizes the limitations placed by citywide
budget cuts that restrict the range of inspectors.
This is why Terence also offers a solution that
reaches out to ethnic business and consumer organizations
offering incentives that benefit both parties.
c. Education: With the main problem in our schools
simply being that we don’t have enough dollars
to buy basic learning materials, Terence will
use his connections and experience at the city
level to squeeze every available dollar from the
city into our district’s schools.
Many of the district’s problems are due to a simple
lack of funding. Terence’s practical experience
maneuvering through the government bureaucracy makes
him the candidate who can successfully
fight for District 20’s fair share!
