Born in Brooklyn (1944),
I moved to Flushing (1954) and Jackson Heights
(1973) where I share a cooperative apartment with
my wife of 25 years, Melanie and our dog Hudson.
I’ve competed in the Golden Gloves and N.Y.C.
Marathon. I became a lawyer after a 4 year law
office-clerkship and appeared successfully before
the N.Y. Court Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court.
I’ve been a community activist since 1963 coaching
Pop Warner Football through 1971. I organized
a benefit for paralyzed policeman Steven McDonald
(1987-Javits Center-10,000 people- $200,000.00).
I was named N.Y.P.D. Outstanding Citizen (1994).
As president of Jackson Heights
Beautification Group I was instrumental in a remarkable
community turnaround. I designed a “Melting
Pot”poster celebrating diversity, started
our Halloween Parade, cleaned graffiti from hundreds
of buildings, initiated Architectural/Good Neighbor
Awards, outdoor concerts and wrote a local children’s
history given to 1,200 4th graders annually. I
led battles to expand P.S. 69 and I.S. 145 and
secured a lease for Renaissance School. I helped
organize Friends of Travers Park and local landmarking
efforts.
I will fight for quality public
schools, more police and municipal services and
better enforcement of existing laws for cleaner,
safer, quieter, affordable neighborhoods, local
jobs and small business. Let’s help neighborhoods
instead of subsidizing giant corporations. I will
be a champion for seniors, children, workers and
the sick.
I’m an effective professional advocate
who leads by example, a proven leader of all people
seeking a better life. I have good ideas and know
how to put them into practice. I will make the
25 CD a citywide model and make you proud of me.
