Having been responsible for
the most recent increase in the population count
(growth by 11%), in our councilmatic district.
Because of my effective leadership it will ensure
us that we get the proper resources and revenue
increased. Thereby it will stimulate economic
development in the council district.
- As a member of the Board of Trustees of CUNY,
I led the fight to maintain York College as a
four year institution. In addition I played a
vital role in the construction of the new campus.
- As the Queens Coordinator for Rev. Al Sharpton
I led the fight against police brutality and racial
profiling. Also led the fight for control of the
community school districts.
- I will be a full time City Councilman that will
fight for equal distribution of resources throughout
the district such as:
- Education - reduce class size (20 per class),
computer, science labs, libraries, music &
sports programs, after school programs, and more
parental involvement programs, construction of
Middle/High School of science & math technology
at York College. The Leasing/rental of existing
facilities in our community to alleviate overcrowdiness.
Expansion of the Board programs.
- Transportation - city, private bus service
- increase in subsidy from city increase in pay
for private bus drivers, new buses (clean air
buses), improve bus services - van drivers - p/u
on bus routes, stop harassment by police &
multiple ticketing
- Economic development - living wage for working
families ($10-12 per hr.)
Expand the ED2 to allow businesses to obtain focus,
and to hire local residents.
