Lew M. Simon was born and raised on the
Rockaway Peninsula. Lew started as a public advocate
at an early age (ten) by fighting to keep open
the Arverne Branch of the New York Public Library.
Lew has never stopped fighting for his community.
Lew has a proven track record of success as a
public advocate. He has fought successfully for
the elimination of the Crossbay Bridge Toll for
the residents of the Rockaways & Broad Channel.
Lew has spearheaded such successful projects as
the St. Camilus sewer project, the installation
of the Rockaway Point Boulevard traffic light,
closing of illegal SRO facilities, including the
Lawrence Hotel, and the installation of stop signs
and traffic lights requested by the residents
of our district.
Lew has also worked to maintain several institutions
within the district including the Neponsit Adult
Day Care Center, St. John’s Hospital, St. Stan’s
Church restoration, and the obtaining of three
fire trucks for the Broad Channel Fire Department.
As City councilman, Lew will seek to restore
the Rockaway Beach line of the L.I.R.R., establish
a “Magnet” school at MS180, restoration of the
Rockaway Boardwalk, subsidize the Rockaway Ferry
service to Manhattan, seek to remove the Crossbay
Bridge tolls for all residents of Queens County,
and the removal of the Marine Park Bridge toll
for the Rockaway residents.
Lew is a man of results who responds to the needs
of all people.
