Letitia James understands
the problems of our community and has worked over
the years to solve them; as Counsel in the NYS Assembly
where she drafted legislation and assisted in negotiating
budgets to ensure that our community received its
fair share of funding; as a public defender representing
children in the criminal justice system and victims
of domestic abuse; as an Assistant Attorney General
investigating the stop and frisk practices of NYPD,
and fighting to protect seniors against deceptive
business practices.
In the City Council, Letitia will fight to increase
funding for our schools to reduce class size, increase
teacher salaries, provide more technology and finance
capital improvements.
Letitia will also lead the fight to fund a city
program to build more units of affordable housing
in the 35th Council District. She will also sponsor
legislation to protect and continue rent stabilization
and rent control. She will also expand funding for
more senior programs including rent increase and
real estate property tax exemptions for senior homeowners.
Letitia will also create opportunities for businesses
and provide access to loans, grants and technical
assistance.
Letitia will sponsor a living wage bill in the City
Council, and fight for quality heath care in the
district.
Letitia James is experienced, effective and has
a proven record of accomplishment to get the job
done in the City Council.
She has been endorsed by SEIU, 1199, DC 37, UAW,
Council 2001, Working Families Party and the Kings
County Democratic Committee.
In the City Council, she can make a difference for
us.
