Alithia Alleyne represented cultural and
educational institutions during budget negotiations
in City Hall and in the State Legislature.
Ms. Alleyne lobbied for and won over $40 million
in federal, state and city funding for capital
improvements, educational programs and libraries.
Focusing on the Fair Share
Alithia Alleyne, a visionary, combined
her corporate and civic training to expand services
for our community. In 1995, she was appointed
Councilmanic Aide to the New York City Council.
During her tenure with the City Council, Ms. Alleyne
mastered the art of making city government work
us.
Lifetime Commitment to People and Public Service
At age fifteen Alithia Alleyne knew that
she would dedicate her life to helping others.
Observing the number of children whose test scores
declined in math, Alithia signed-up to be a teacher’s
assistant at P.S.268K. Alithia worked while
attending City College, first in banking, then
on Wall Street. Her focus was on much more than
money. Drawn to community service, Alithia devoted
her expertise to issues including healthcare and
prescription coverage, immigration, expanded day-care,
services for seniors, technical skills training,
and job opportunities. Alithia Alleyne
assisted neighborhood groups and faith-based organizations,
volunteering to coordinate events and fundraisers
A Successful Daughter of Our Community
Alithia Alleyne was born to immigrant parents:
her father, John Alleyne from Barbados -a veteran
and retired NYC Transit Inspector; and her mother
Naomi Alleyne from Panama - a NYC public
school teacher. They instilled in Alithia
and her six siblings a love for God, family, community
and respect for others. A lifelong resident of
Brooklyn, Alithia attended NYC public schools
and resides in East Flatbush for 26 years. Alithia
worships at the Christian Life Cultural Center
with her husband and daughter.
