I believe
government should be accessible and accountable.
I believe in forging coalitions. Together
we can build and preserve affordable housing. We
can see to providing college education for all
high school students. We can secure access
to health care for working families and immigrants.
We can guarantee living wages for all workers.
We can build better-quality schools with
smaller class sizes and safe learning environments.
We can have safer, quieter streets in our
neighborhoods.
For over 25 years, I have served the public interest,
ensuring proper representation for all.
I came here as an immigrant with my family. I attended
PS130 and JHS65 in this district. My husband, Alan
Tung, teaches at PS3, and our son Kevin will be
a sophomore at Syracuse University. After teaching
at Seward Park High School and PS42, I worked for
LaGuardia Community College, helping over a thousand
students to attend college. I have served on Community
Boards 1 (housing, transportation, financial district
committees) and 3 (budget committee chair, economic
development and transportation committees). I have
built effective coalitions of tenants, seniors,
parents and students, voters, street vendors and
small business owners -- helping them to effectively
express their concerns and to access services they
need from government.
I’ve forged alliances with the NY Immigration Coalition
and the Lower Manhattan Health Care Coalition on
education reform, voter rights and health care issues.
Together, we will make sure that our communities
get a fair share of the city’s resources and services.
I will be your strong voice in the City Council.
