Our children deserve
the best education we can provide. As a ten-year
school board member, former president and current
vice president of Community School Board 27, I created
an incentive program to give awards to schools that
improve student performance, won $1.5 million for
after-school services, and brought in desperately
needed books, desks and equipment to our children’s
schools. As your City Councilman, I would fight
to recruit the most qualified teachers and to repair
our crumbling schools.
Our community also needs a strong economy. I worked
as assistant district manager for Congressman Floyd
H. Flake, and as a long-time activist I helped to
found a local development program that sponsors
entrepreneurial training and gives seed grants to
residents to start new businesses. Through the Forward
Motion program I have matched the unemployed with
employers. I also founded a farmers’ market for
local entrepreneurs that provides healthy food to
our community. As your City Councilman, I would
continue to work for sensible development initiatives,
a city-wide living wage, and the end of predatory
lending practices.
As a parent and a long-time resident of our community,
I have first-hand experience with our inadequate
park and recreation facilities and lackluster transportation
system. I will fight for safe play spaces, a reevaluation
of our infrastructure, and law enforcement that
treats everyone with dignity and respect.
Our neighborhoods need someone who will work hard
for positive change. Throughout my career, I have
fought for our children and our community and I
will continue to do so as your City Councilman -
that’s why I need your vote on Election Day.
