The 6th District Councilmember must hit
the ground running in 2002. My candidacy is based
on three decades of government, nonprofit, and
private sector experience. I can lead the Council
in full partnership with the Mayor in governing,
providing better municipal services, and protecting
the Westside’s diversity.
During 12 years directing the Council’s most
accessible constituent office, and as Deputy Public
Advocate creating the City’s first government
website, I proved that government can be innovative
and open. I stand for:
Smaller classes, qualified, better-paid teachers,
a realistic construction budget, and coordinated
early education and after-school programs
New affordable housing, preservation of rent
stabilized/controlled units, Mitchell-Lamas, public
housing, SROs, more oversight, and coop/condo
tax abatements
Better planning and budgeting as keystones to
manage traffic, overcrowded buses/subways, and
out-of-scale development; more support for parks,
gardens, recycling, and cultural centers to meet
new demand
Environmental and reproductive health advocacy,
public hospitals, and increasing enrollment in
public health insurance
Expanding Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption
and Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities
to enable seniors to continue to live at home
More police on the street and better community
relations
Small businesses, new manufacturing, and living
wage jobs.
Everyone must be free from discrimination- regardless
of race, religion, gender, disability, sexual
orientation, and gender identity and expression.
