Affordable Quality
Childcare
Secure funding for additional affordable and adequate
childcare and preschool programs. Provide head of
households the opportunity to provide for their
families, while leaving their children in a safe
and nurturing environment.
Education
Invest in programs that are working. Our schools
should not be shortchanged of the monies that are
needed to repair and modernize them. Reward teachers
by providing bonuses for outstanding teachers and
support programs for additional training to enhance
teaching skills and techniques.
Strengthen Rent Regulations
Introduce Legislation that will change our current
Zoning Law making it feasible for the construction
of additional affordable housing in Manhattan. Introduce
Legislation that will give the City Council the
jurisdiction to confirm the mayoral appointments
to the Rent Guideline Board.
Working for Seniors
Fight to support tax-credit for senior renters to
help them stay in their homes and maintain their
independence. Expand services at our local Senior
Centers to provide Mental Health Services and Weekend
Meals at senior centers.
Health and Environment
Reduce air pollution in Northern Manhattan working
with the MTA to convert all Diesel Buses to Natural
Gas Engines. Fight for the Department of Health
to investigate the high Breast Cancer rate in Northern
Manhattan and support a comprehensive Breast Cancer
Education and Screening program.
Job Development Programs
Bring tools and resources to strengthen and expand
existing adult education and job development programs.
Empowering Small Businesses
Adopt legislation that will regulate commercial
rents. Work with small businesses and empower them
with technical tools and opportunities that will
enable them to maintain their businesses.
Working with Youth and the Arts
Support the development of a Youth, Arts and Cultural
Center.
