Candidate Statement
I have more than 45 years of experience with the state budget, starting with co-founding NYPIRG. For three decades I ran the Hunger Action Network of NYS.
Throughout my career I have actively opposed waste and corruption. I wrote the state law enabling taxpayers to sue for illegal expenditures of tax dollars. As an elected official, I managed to cut local taxes every year.
We need to divest our pension fund from fossil fuels.
It is morally wrong for the state to invest $11 billion in companies that are killing life on our planet. It is also increasingly a bad financial risk. If the state had divested from fossil fuels a decade ago, the pension fund would have an extra $22 billion.
Climate change is the greatest threat facing humanity. Vote Green for a massive emergency mobilization to halt fossil fuel use and move to 100% clean energy by 2030.
