I founded the Brighton
Neighborhood Association in 1977 in
order to mobilize the neighborhood to solve community
problems. There is much we have achieved together,
and with your vote, we can achieve even more.
Crime: In 1977, I organized a rally of 1,000
people, and won a greater police presence for our
community. As your Councilwoman, I will redouble
efforts to have police officers visible on the street
day and night. With mutual cooperation and respect
between the police and all the citizens of our community,
we can further reduce crime.
Affordable Housing: I have already written
two major State laws to protect tenant’s rights.
As your Councilwoman, I will work to establish a
trust fund to build decent, affordable housing.
I will also fight to preserve the Mitchell-Lama
program. I will lobby Albany to raise the income
eligibility in SCRIE, so more seniors will be protected
from rent increases.
Education: I served as a presidium member
of P.S. 225, and initiated after-school and summer
school programs. Our schools are overcrowded and
dilapidated, and we lose too many qualified teachers
to the higher paying suburbs. As your Councilwoman,
I will make sure that the City increases its school
funding, and I will demand that the State give the
City its fair share of school funds.
City Contracts: I have initiated projects
to restore our beaches and boardwalks, and to renovate
dilapidated housing. Like you, I often wonder why
some street construction projects seem to go on
indefinitely. As your Councilwoman, I will review
contracts to make sure they go to the lowest bidder
who can do the highest quality job in the least
amount of time.
In my 25 years of community service, I learned how
the system works, and how to make it work for people.
With your support, we can achieve even more for
the 47th district.
I am proud to be endorsed by the Liberal Party,
the Highway Democratic Club, State Senator Marty
Markowitz, and Councilman Mike Nelson.
