Educating Children
- Smaller classes and smarter kids are my highest
priorities. After visiting 50 public schools — at
least one in every school district — I’d cap class
size at 20 for young children, modernize our schools
for the 21st Century, and improve teacher pay and
training. And because our Board of Education has
proven to be a costly, ineffective bureaucracy,
let’s instead give the Mayor more accountability
for public education.
Protecting Families - My legal efforts
helped triple the rate of discipline against police
misconduct and end mob control of the garbage
industry. As the 108th Mayor, I’ll further reduce
crime and abuse by increasing neighborhood policing,
creating a new NYPD unit for crime victims, providing
tuition assistance to young officers — and reducing
tensions between cops and communities. Former
Police Commissioner William Bratton said that
I have “the best ideas to reduce both crime
and misconduct in our city.”
Uniting New Yorkers - New Yorker can’t
have a Mayor who looks like everyone, but they
deserve a Mayor who listens to everyone.
With support from not only Bill Bratton but also
Mayor David Dinkins, Fernando Mateo, 100 Blacks
and Latinos in Law Enforcement, Rabbi Shea Hecht
and 12 labor unions, I’ve assembled the broadest
inter-racial, inter-ethnic coalition of any candidate.
After a decade of divisiveness, I want to be a
leader for all. That’s the best way to
win and to govern.
As your Consumer Affairs Commissioner and then
Public Advocate for this past decade, I’ve produced
244 investigations, legal actions and laws helping
children and families — like prohibiting gender
price discrimination and stopping companies from
firing domestic violence victims; responded to
100,000 ombudsman complaints against the bureaucracy;
advocated new ideas for affordable housing and
health care; and held town meetings in all 59
community boards. With my record, vision
and coalition, I’ll be a no-nonsense Mayor
who gets big things done — a Mayor you can trust.
